GRAPHIC DESIGNER
PROJECT:
Misconceptions: Web Personas and the Accuracy of the Lens
MySpace, Facebook, Blogs and Dating Websites all have one thing in common: Profile Pictures. Theses pictures are meant to be a representation of the person the page is about, but how fabricated is this representation? Photos are not reality in any form. I did this exercise to exploit the extent that the person manipulates their "personality" with their pose and also how big of an effect the lens can have on image. All of these pictures were taken with Photobooth on my iMac. No filter or photoshop was used to manipulate these photos (except to scale them down). For the poses, I mimicked Facebook profile pictures that I found just clicking from one person's profile to the next.
This was actually a project I did awhile back that I recently rediscovered. I am thinking about doing another round mimicking other profile picture based sites.
